Nigeria IGP petition over the alledge murder of the wife of a lawyer.

A lawyer and member of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Onueke branch, Barr. Amechi Shedrack Enyi, on Tuesday, petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, and Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari over alleged conspiracy with security operatives that resulted to the murder of his wife, Gloria by gunmen.

The petitioner, Barr Enyi made this known in a statement signed by Barr. Ikechukwu Njoku among others and made available to journalists in Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State.

Enyi, however, accused the Divisional Police Officer, Central Police Station Abakaliki and the Investigation Officer, (CPS) of conspiring and murdering of his wife

He alleged that the murder of his wife can be deduced from the acts of threats coming from the police officer Mr. Emmanuel Lawrence and wife, and the manner in which he was lured out of his house for the plans to be executed.

Responding, the chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Onueke Branch Uche Igba said that trouble started when on the 22nd of November 2021, Barr. Shedrack Enyi’s wife, Mrs. Amechi Gloria was brutally stabbed to death in her residence at No. 1 Enyi Close Nkaliki while her husband was being unlawfully detained at the Central Police Station Abakaliki.

He said that the unlawfully detention was on the orders of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP. Ikechukwu Okoro with the conspiracy of the Investigation Police Officer, Geoffrey Aghachi and One Inspector. Emmanuel Lawrence and his wife.

According to the petitioner, Mrs. Lawrence converted part of her rented apartment to mini poultry house, an act which constituted unbearable nuisance against other tenants in the premises.

Acting on the persistent complaint raised against the said nuisance, Barr. Enyi who manages the property appealed to her to dismantle the poultry house made of wood and cease further rearing of the chicken in the premises.

Mrs. Lawrence flagrantly refused to yield to the entreaties made by Barr. Enyi, which prompted him with the assistance of the caretaker of the premises and other tenants to remove the poultry wooden house”.

He alleged that Mr. Lawrence and wife started unleashing threat against the Barr. Shedrack who was later arrested and detained at CPS, following complaint made at the police station by Mr. Lawrence and wife.

Enyi expressed regret that he was later granted bail and was subsequently rearrested again after he called for the transfer of the case to the police headquarters.

I was thrown into cell on the orders of the said DPO of Central Police Station on Saturday 20th November 2021 and remained incarcerated till Monday morning, 22nd November 2021, he noted.

The police public relations officer, PPRO, DSP Loveth Odah, Ebonyi State command, refused to pick calls when contacted for reaction at the time of filling this report.

Senate clashes over lopsideness in military recruitment.

Uneasy calm on Tuesday evening pervaded the Senate wing of the National Assembly as members of the Senate Committee on Army clashed over alleged lopsidedness in recent recruitments carried out by the Nigerian Army, NA.

The development happened during an interactive session between members of the committee and the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army, Major General S.O Olabanji.

Trouble started when a member of the committee who doubles as the Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate, Senator Abdullahi Ibrahim Danbaba (PDP Sokoto South) took up General Olabanji on alleged lopsided nature of recruitment carried out by the Army recently.

But the acting chairman of the committee, Senator Abba Moro (PDP Benue South) who presided over the session, ruled Danbaba out of order, saying this meeting is not for such enquiry.

Apparently irked by the development, another member of the committee, Senator Barinada Mpigi (PDP Rivers South South), raised the issue again, saying lopsidedeness in recruitment is not an issue to be put aside or rule against.

Senator Moro again ruled against the enquiry, insisting that the session was not for review of recruitment made by the Army, but on Tactical Training and Doctrine men and officers.

The questions being raised by my colleagues on alleged lopsided recruitments are being thrown to the wrong person. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt – Gen. Farouk Yahaya is the one who can do justice to such allegation or enquiry, he said.

Angered by the insistence of Senator Moro that questions on recruitment should be entertained at the session, Senators Danbaba and Mpigi stormed out of the meeting.

Expressing his anger to journalists on what transpired at the session, Senator Danbaba said he walked out from the meeting with Senator Mpigi based on dictatorial action of Senator Moro.

He shouldn’t have ruled us out of order since the military man whom the question was directed to, did not complain.

The issue of marginalization in recruitment has never been responded to, it is part of the oversight process of the committee to ensure that whatever is to be done should be done to ensure justice, the Nigerian Army like any institution of government in Nigeria is supposed to comply with provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and that constitution has made it very clear that the issue of federal character and representation is paramount as a constitutional issue.

I’m not blaming the Army, the Army has been performing very well, but at the same time, the issue of recruitment is very very important.

I left the meeting, I stormed out with Mpigi because we were angry, he said.

Defending his action, Senator Moro in a counter interview with journalists, said he had no any regret for ruling Danbaba out of order as far as the issue of alleged lopsided recruitment was concerned.

Danbaba and Mpigi’s questions were directed to a wrong person. What explanation were they expecting from Commander, Training and Doctrine Command on recruitment.

Besides, the committee had tabled the issue before the Chief of Army Staff few months ago with response bothering on physical and medical reasons for those recruited and those who failed in the exercise, he stressed.

It was, however, gathered that Senator Danbaba vowed to take the matter to the Leader of the Senate, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC Kebbi North) for formal complaint.

Brazilians in a shock as President Jair Bolsonaro join another political party.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro officially joined the centrist Liberal Party on Tuesday, a key political deal in his quest for reelection in 2022.

After two years without a political party, Bolsonaro decided to join one of the parties in the so-called Center group, a sign that he is changing course from his 2018 campaign strategy, when he sharply criticized old-school political practices.

It is a simple event, but very important so that we can compete for something later,” Bolsonaro said in Brasilia during the ceremony in which a Cabinet minister and one of his sons, Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro, also joined the Liberals.

Bolsonaro hopes the alliance can help him defeat his nemesis, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who served from 2003 to 2011 and will likely try for a third term in 2022. “Lula,” as da Silva is universally known, leads Bolsonaro in the main polls.

The Liberal Party became the ninth party of Bolsonaro’s political career, which began as councilman of Rio de Janeiro in the late 1980s. Like other Center parties, the Liberals are known for ideological malleability and for making alliances to seek shares of government appointments and funding. In 2002, the party allied with da Silva to run a candidate for vice president.

IPOB deny being responsible for the beheading officer, alleges DSS, Army and Police behind the killing.

The attention of the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi KANU, has been drawn to the spurious allegation by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, that we are responsible for the beheading of security agents in a viral video being circulated.
The leadership of the Indigenous people of Biafra wish to state unequivocally that IPOB and ESN are a disciplined freedom movement and security outfit respectively and therefore such barbarity as seen on the said video is not, has never been and will never be part of our modus operandi.

The perpetrators of such barbarism are neither IPOB nor ESN operatives. IPOB has remained a non-violent movement since inception. The Nigeria security agencies namely The Nigeria Police, The DSS, and The Nigerian Army in collaboration with some traitors like Hope Uzodinma and David Umahi governors of Imo and Ebonyi states respectively are the ones recruiting and arming hoodlums to perpetrate atrocities across Biafra land with the single objective to implicate and demonise IPOB. They are the brains behind the violence taking place in Biafraland and they have set up armed groups across Biafraland for this single objective to portray the ESN in a bad light.
We must not forget that since the international community rebuffed the Nigerian government’s request to designate IPOB as a terror group, they have been looking for ways to justify their demand and this is just a part of their clandestine plans to tarnish the image of IPOB and the ESN.
It is clear to all and sundry that IPOB and ESN have never engaged in any of the senseless killings going on in our land. ESN’s mandate is to resist terrorists and jihadists invading our ancestral land and destroying our crops and raping our sisters and mothers. IPOB members are not killers but freedom fighters struggling for the peaceful restoration of the Independent state of Biafra.
We are not surprised at the desperation of our enemies to renew their carnages and atrocities in our land because they know that time is running out on them and their collaborators. Their intention has always been to create the wrong and negative impression that IPOB is a violent movement so, therefore, they should be blamed for the growing insecurity in Biafra land. They are looking for occasions to justify this warped narative against IPOB and as usual they will continue to fail.
We only pity the gullible minds who cannot see and read between the lines. We know the antics of our enemies. They are unsettled with the recent moves by some respected Igbo Elders and Bishops to secure the unconditional release of our Leader.
They are pushing forward their strategies the main plank of which is to increase the wave of violence and barbaric acts including gruesome killings across Biafran land to create the impression that his followers are violent.
They want to justify his continued detention and make efforts to release him difficult, if not impossible. But we understand their game plan.
The world should know that those who don’t want our leader, Mazi Nnamdi KANU, released are responsible for the mayhem in our land. They want to implicate him at all cost. But God will vindicate him. These same people were responsible for all the killings in Anambra State in the wake of the just-concluded governoship election with intent to blame their atrocities on IPOB but we outsmarted them when we cancelled our earlier order to commence civil disobedience in the form of sit-at-home to drive home our demand for the release of our Leader.
Now, they are on the prowl again erroneously believing that they can use the criminal groups they created and armed to scuttle ongoing efforts to secure the unconditional release of our leader. We are watching and waiting.

Police killing continue in the East as Anambra community clash with police over killing of a 20 years old girl.

In Anambra, it was alleged that policemen patrolling the Azia -Orsumoghu axis shot a girl, Chidinma who was sent on an errand by her aged mother.

Although the police denied the allegation, the president-general of Azia General Assembly, Dr. Tonna Nwabueze has   petitioned the Inspector General of Police over the matter.

According to the petition, Chidinma and her brother were shot at close range by a team member of the Special Unit from inside an armored vehicle.

Nwabueze said although Chidinma’s brother who was with her was spared, the bullet shattered Chidinma’s head with the brain matter on the ground.

The PG said She died instantly. It’s quite unimaginable because there was no form of provocation that could be linked to this.

Presently, her body is deposited at a hospital morgue at Okija, Anambra.

About 100 meters from the site of this incident, the police equally opened fire on a Sienna Space Bus parked by a block industry.

We contacted the Area Commander of the police on this and he told us that the policemen are  a Special Unit from Awka deployed in Orsumoghu against the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.

However,  the police  denied involvement even as it consoled the family of Miss Chidimma.

In a statement signed by Mr. Toochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, the state police command debunked the community’s claim.

Ikenga said that on the fateful day, a police escort team consisting of seven policemen and three civilian drivers travelling through Azia/Osumoghu Road was ambushed by some armed men, adding that two police officers were killed in the attack and their bodies burnt, while one of the officers was still missing.

According to him, the peddlers of the misinformation about Chidinma’s death anchored their claims on the fact that they saw an Armoured Personnel Carrier passing through Azia/Osumoghu junction when the alleged incident happened.

The police rescue  team on arrival at Azia/Osumoghu junction came under indiscriminate shooting with Improvised Explosive Devices thrown at their vehicles by hoodlums who earlier attacked a police escort team.

Police operatives repelled the attack and recovered two earlier stolen rifles belonging to the police. Throughout the operation, no innocent citizen, talk less of children were sighted in the area.

Appeal court in Imo state nullify Isikwuato high court judgment which restored a bachelor degree to Orji Uzor Kalu.

An appeal Court sitting in Owerri has nullify the judgement of Isikwuato high court which restored a bachelors degree certificate of the Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzo kalu which was earlier stripped by Abia state University.

The court says the trial court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.

Delivering judgement in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Justice Adefope Okojie upheld the withdrawal of Orji Uzo Kalu’s certificate by the university.

The appeal Court said the respondent ought to have exhausted all the remedies available to him before approaching the court to challenge the decision of the Senate of Abia state university.

Abia state University through it’s registrar in March 2, 2013 withdrew the certificate awarded to Orji Uzo kalu for violating university’s admission and graduation extant rules and regulations

reacting to the judgement, counsel to the appellant, Jesse Nwaenyo said the institution received the judgement with joy, noting that it has further proofed that the respondent Orji Uzo kalu did not merit the certificate.

Amidst Omicron varian, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood categorically said that schools will not be closed in Pakistan.

Rejecting the speculations about the closure of educational institutions amid the emergence of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, in various countries, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood categorically said that the schools will not be closed in Pakistan.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of inter-boards sports gala in the Islamabad, Shafqat said, Schools will remain open and the examinations will be held as per schedule.

He said that the government was committed to raise the standard of educational institutions in the country, adding that students had already suffered losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic

A day earlier, Shafqat had said that the government wanted to continue the education activities.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, the federal minister had said he was not aware of the details about the new strain but there should not be any disruption in education.

Shafqat had said that examinations would be held on time and with the complete syllabus as decided by the education ministers.

Pakistani people urged to get fully vaccinated over Omicron variant Earlier, Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar warned that the latest concerning variant of the coronavirus, Omicron, will inevitably come to Pakistan and the country had only a few weeks to contain its threat.

Addressing a press conference alongside Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan, Umar urged the Pakistani people to get fully vaccinated in order to protect themselves from the new Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Umra said, Previous experiences show that it can spread across the world, including Pakistan, because the world is so interconnected that it is impossible to stop any new variant from spreading.”

At present, people getting fully vaccinated is a logical solution against threat of the Omicron variant, according to the Minister.

Umar said the government had decided to re-intensify the vaccination campaign across the country by utilising extra resources. The vaccination process was already going on but now we are going to escalate the process and within two or three days, a reinforced vaccination campaign would start in all the provinces to minimise threat of the new variant (Omicron),” Umar said. He said that currently 50 million Pakistani people are fully vaccinated.

This (strain) has to spread in the whole world as we saw before that when a variant comes, the world is so interconnected that it is impossible to stop it, the minister said, adding that vaccination was the most logical solution to curb the threat.

He said the initial information the government had received was that although Omicron was a “very dangerous” variant, vaccination will be effective against it. “What we can do is to at least delay the arrival of virus in Pakistan by taking prompt actions,” he said.

Talking about the government’s preventive measures, the minister said that they were tightening restrictions for the passengers coming from abroad and increasing testing capacity in high-risk areas.

Vehicles collided on each other in Pakistan, leaving 25 persons injured..

At least 25 people were injured on Tuesday morning after 30 vehicles piled up on motorway due to low-visibility and dense fog at three different locations in Pakistan, police said.

An official from the patrolling police told local media that the vehicles, mostly cars, piled up on M-2 motorway at Kala Shah Kaku and Qila Sattar Shah areas in Sheikhupura district of the eastern Punjab province due to dense fog.

Several cars also collided with one another on M-1 motorway in the country’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province due to dense fog, leaving more than six people injured, our news agency reported.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the sites and shifted the injured persons to nearby hospitals.

Local media quoting hospitals’ officials said at least 10 of the injured got serious wounds and are being treated at the intensive care units.

China miscalculations on the international stage. World spy master said.

An overconfident and assertive China under President Xi Jinping and Communist Party rule risks making miscalculations on the international stage, including underestimating the resolve of the United States, Britain’s spy chief said on Tuesday.

In his first major public speech as chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) known as MI6, Richard Moore said China and Russia were racing to master technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

The world’s spy masters, from Langley to Moscow, are grappling with the transformation of China into a superpower challenging the post-Cold War dominance of the United States militarily, economically and increasingly in espionage.

Adapting to a world affected by the rise of China is the single greatest priority for MI6, Moore, 58, said in a speech in London.

Listing areas where Beijing has become more assertive, he singled out China’s desire to “resolve the Taiwan issue, by force if necessary as a serious challenge to global stability and peace China considers the democratically-ruled island to be part of its territory.

China had stripped Hong Kong citizens of rights, carried out abuses in its western Xinjiang province and was trying to distort public discourse and political decision making across the globe”, Moore said.

Beijing believes its own propaganda about Western frailties and underestimates Washington’s resolve, he said. The risk of Chinese miscalculation through over-confidence is real.

The Chinese embassy in London did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Moore’s remarks.

China has repeatedly hit back at Western criticism of its actions, saying that the path set by its Communist Party has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty. It denies abuses in Xinjiang, says former British colony Hong Kong faces a security threat from secessionists, and accuses the United States of creating tension over Taiwan.

China in 1979 had an economy that was smaller than Italy’s, but after opening to foreign investment and introducing market reforms it has become the world’s second-largest economy, a rapid rise with few parallels in history.

Moore, who joined MI6 in the 1980s and worked under diplomatic cover in Vietnam, Turkey, Pakistan and Iran, said technological progress over the next decade could outstrip progress over the past century.

Our adversaries are pouring money and ambition into mastering artificial intelligence, quantum computing and synthetic biology, because they know that mastering these technologies will give them leverage, Moore said.

Moore also lamented the dire state of relations between Britain and Russia, saying his first memories were as a child growing up in Moscow in the 1960s, as his father had been posted to the Soviet Union.

I have a deep respect for Russia’s history and culture and people, Moore said. The current difficult relationship with Russia is not the one the UK wants. But we will do whatever it takes to keep our country safe and to deter and defend against the full spectrum of threats Moscow poses.
