Anambra State government has accused Malami, of being behind the move by thee EFCC against Governor Obiano.

The Anambra State Government has accused the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), of allegedly being behind the current move by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against the state governor, Willie Obiano.

Don Adinuba, the state Commissioner of Information and Public Enlightenment, said that the EFCC is overseen by the Office of the AGF and that Malami attempted to sabotage the recent governorship election in Anambra.

Adinuba remarked on Politics Today, a Channels Television current affairs program that our correspondent saw from Abuja on Thursday, that the EFCC’s action is politically motivated.

There is no justification for this. Worse, the EFCC generated the idea that the governor wanted to flee while he just has four months left in office.

It seems unfathomable that a governor would depart a state four months before the end of his term.” That is unexpected. It simply does not make sense to anyone because the entire exercise is political.”

I will reiterate who these persons are,” the commissioner replied when asked who he was referring to. The exact persons who did not want the election to take place in Anambra State and had the audited toe entire nation that the poll would not take place due to security concerns, without authorization from the President.

As soon as the President learned of the conspiracy, he was worried and said, ‘No, the election must go on in Anambra, and it must be free and fair.’And the election became free, fair, and transparent, with the outcome reflecting the views and aspirations of the general public, not just Anambra residents, but all Nigerians.

Nigeria Police Arraign Northerner Caught With Eight Explosive Devices In Lagos.

The intelligence unit of the Lagos State Police Command in Panti, Yaba, has commenced an extensive investigation to know the motive behind a 24-year old Fulani man, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who was caught with 8 pieces of 600mm mortar bomb explosives in the state.

According to PM Express, Abdullahi was arrested after he and others at large allegedly smuggled 8 pieces of uncharged mortar bombs inside the Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos

However, they ran out of luck after the security intelligence suspected the movement of Abdullahi and searched the bag he was carrying and discovered that he was in possession of the bombs.

He was immediately arrested and the bombs were recovered from him as exhibits, while his other accomplices escaped and are now at large.

It was not yet certain the motives behind their action and where they got the explosives. Some, who heard about it, suspected they might have smuggled the bombs into the cantonment to bomb the barracks. While others suspected they may have smuggled the explosives for safe keeping for an undisclosed operation in the state since they were not military officers,

The police have already charged the prime suspect, Abdullahi before the Ebute Meta Magistrates Court and he was remanded in custody while the investigation is still ongoing to unmask those behind the act.

The motion was moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Olatunde Kehinde, who asked the court to remand the defendant in custody pending the outcome of investigation and Department of Public Prosecution’s advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Oshoniyi, ordered the remand of Abdullahi in custody pending the outcome of DPP’s while the police were said to have intensified efforts to apprehend other accomplices now at large.

19 feared dead, while 20 others injured in a bus crash in Joquicingo, Southwest City Mexico..

Nineteen people died and 20 more were injured after a bus apparently carrying pilgrims to a religious site in central Mexico crashed on Friday.

Ricardo de la Cruz, an assitant interior secretary in the State of Mexico, said the accident occurred in the township of Joquicingo, southwest of Mexico City.

The bus was heading from the western state of Michoacan to Chalma, a town that has been visited by Roman Catholic pilgrims for centuries.

There was no immediate information on the condition of the injured passengers. Many Mexicans go on religious pilgrimages as Dec. 12, the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, approaches.

Because they often walk or bike on narrow roads or travel in aging buses, accidents are not uncommon.

Mexico State borders Mexico City on three sides, and includes both remote rural villages and crowded suburbs of the capital.

Chalma was a site sacred in pre-Hispanic times before the 1521 conquest. After the Spanish came, believers say, a cross miraculously appeared in a cave that had been dedicated to an Aztec god, making Chalma a Christian pilgrimage site.

Nigeria: List Of 95 Obigbo & Orlu Residents Abducted By Soldiers Discovered In Kaduna Prisons.

International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law has accused the Nigerian army of unjustly detaining no fewer than 95 persons abducted from Obigbo, Rivers State and Orlu, Imo State in Kaduna Prisons.

The human rights watch also known as Intersociety said the detainees had been denied access to their families and lawyers since their abduction by Nigerian soldiers in October and November 2020.

Intersociety also disclosed the names of the detainees comprising 89 males and six females to include Humphrey Onyii, Kenechukwu Paul, Kacil Ude, Antonio Obi, Oluchi Nwaba, Ben Akachukwu, Mebechukwu Ifeanyi, Ebube Uche, David Akudo, Nnamdi Ndidi, Francis Collins, and Ozioma Anurika (female).

This was contained in a statement issued by Intersociety, which was obtained by SaharaReporters on Thursday.

It was titled, ‘Fresh List Of 95 Obigbo & Orlu Residents Abducted By Soldiers Discovered In Kaduna Prisons, 257 Others Missing’ and jointly signed by the Board Chair, Emeka Umeagbalasi; Head, Civil Liberties and Rule of Law Department, Obianuju Igboeli Esq and Head, Campaign And Publicity Department Chidimma Udegbunam Esq.

The statement read, “It is with the rudest shock and deepest dismay that the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) is informing the whole world about the fresh discovery of 95 abducted Obigbo and Orlu residents including six females and 89 males in Kaduna Prisons and Lock Centers.

As a matter of fact, the total number of unarmed and defenceless citizens abducted from Obigbo and Orlu located in Rivers and Imo states by soldiers of the Nigerian Army and bundled to different secret military and policing custodies in Kaduna is ‘357’, out of which 95 were in October 2021 discovered in the Kaduna Prisons and Lock Centers.

The total number discovered was 100 persons and out of same only one whose father has links in the military has regained freedom. Four have died including Citizen Ugochukwu, who died of Asthma, leaving 95 others remaining and presently languishing in the Kaduna Prisons and Lock Centers.

The discovery of the above followed information obtained from three of the victims interviewed by some local and international human rights activists and lawyers who visited them.

Till date, the whereabouts of the remaining 257 others held in different parts of the State have remained unknown. Intersociety had in its recent statements, raised alarms stating that unarmed and defenceless Igbo citizens in their multiple hundreds, abducted by soldiers in Obigbo were secretly being held in the Northern part of the country including FCT, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kaduna and Zamfara States and as of date, not less than 400 have been freed and scores killed in custody.

It further said, We are therefore raising alarm that the Nigerian Government and its security forces are engaging in grisly and egregious ethnic profiling and cleansing in Igbo Land in particular and Old Eastern Region in general. We are also deeply saddened by the silence, inaction and lukewarm attitudes of political leaders, socio-cultural organizations, Christian and traditional institutions’ leaders; as well as philanthropists and the educated class residing in Igbo Land or outside Nigeria.

We hereby call on those parents and guardians, relatives and associates who have been searching or looking for their missing loved ones since October/November 2020 in Rivers State and Obigbo in particular and Imo State and Orlu and environs in particular since February 2021 to check the list of the 93 names and unnamed two others and see if they are among the list so as to find ways of getting in touch with them in the Kaduna Prisons and Lock Centers for the purpose of securing their release through administrative or court bails.

It must be pointed out that most of the 95 located victims of the Army abduction discovered in Kaduna Prisons who are all Igbo citizens of Christian faith were discovered to have been abducted by soldiers of the Nigerian Army during their genocidal invasion of Obigbo area of Rivers State in response to October 2020 country-wide (EndSARS ) protests in the State.

Contrary to the provisions of the Chapter Four or the Fundamental Human Rights Charter of the 1999 Constitution and the country’s acceded Int’l and Regional Rights Treaty Laws as we as the Access to Criminal Justice Act of 2015, soldiers of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force have brazenly and arbitrarily resorted to abduction and detention of citizens using fraudulent remand warrants or orders. Sometimes they abduct or arrest citizens and detain them for several months and in the end dump them in Prisons without open court remands or having arraigned them in open courts.

Femi Falana (SAN), has knocked the United States over its involvement in the arrest and detention of Alex Saab.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has knocked the United States over its involvement in the arrest and detention of Alex Saab, a special envoy of the Venezuelan government who was arrested in Cape Verde.

According to Falana, the extraterritorial politically motivated judicial overreach of the United States in the case is a twenty-first-century form of colonialism

Saab was arrested on June 12, 2020, after his private jet made a stopover in Cape Verde on his way to Iran for a humanitarian mission on behalf of the Venezuelan government.

The businessman is caught up in a feud between Venezuela, his country, and the US.

The US put pressure on Cape Verde to arrest Saab with plans of extraditing him to face corruption charges.

But Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro who recently appointed Saab as ambassador to the African Union (AU) kicked against the move.

Reacting in a statement obtained by SaharaReporters, Falana said, “Africa and Africans deserve better and the only way we will truly achieve independence of thought and independence of institutions is through our own efforts and not through the platitudes of wolves disguised as sheep.

He said, On 11 August 2021, my colleague Dr Jose Manuel Pinto Monteiro and I filed a petition at the African Commission over the illegal detention of Alex Saab contrary to the judgment of the ECOWAS Court delivered on March 15, 2021, which had ordered his release and set aside the extradition proceedings. We also challenged the dehumanising conditions under which Alex Saab was detained in Cape Verde. Our application for provisional measures was considered and granted by the African Commission on October 13, 2021.

In an extraordinary ‘coincidence, on 13 October the Constitutional Court of Cape Verde (the Constitutional Court) hurriedly signed a certificate authorising the extradition of Alex Saab to the United States. My colleague Dr Pinto and many of his respected peers are very clear that the Constitutional Court had no legal authority to sign such a certification. This was the role of the Barlavento Court of Appeal (TRB), but more on that later.

The action of the Constitutional Court was followed on 14 October with an urgent letter from the Minister of Justice to the United States Ambassador to Cape Verde asking him to make all necessary arrangements to take Alex Saab to the United States. On Saturday, 16 October a plane belonging to the DoJ arrived on the island of Sal and, without any notification to the defence team, Alex Saab was forcibly taken by paramilitaries and handed over to US officials.

First, we must remember that throughout the 491 days of Alex Saab’s detention in Cape Verde, the government gained notoriety as a nation that was happy to sign international agreements but showed a distinct reluctance when it came to the enforcement of decisions made against it by those same bodies. On 15 March and 24 June, the ECOWAS Court of Justice ruled that Alex Saab’s detention was illegal, that he be freed immediately and the extradition process against him be terminated. Cape Verde refused to comply using spurious reasons why the binding decisions of the Court were not binding upon it. On 8 and 16 June, the UN Human Rights Committee, in awarding Interim Measures in favour of Alex Saab, instructed Cape Verde to cease any extradition process until the HRC had completed an investigation into the merits of Alex Saab’s claims of torture and denial of his right to health given his status as a cancer patient. Cape Verde not only failed to comply but refused to even acknowledge the communications. This was followed by an unprecedented letter dated 19 July 2021 (made public on 15 October) in which 5 UN bodies expressed alarm at Alex Saab’s fate at the hands of the Cape Verdean authorities. No surprise of course that Cape Verde refused to express remorse or comply.

So, three strikes and out would be more than enough for any self-respecting state that was not a vassal. Therefore, when Cape Verde got wind of the Commission’s decision to grant Provisional Measures on 13 October the public humiliation of a fourth strike set alarm bells to ring in Praia. Cape Verde and the United States fully understood that Provisional Measures meant the Commission could take another year to reach a final decision on the merits of Alex Saab’s application. This was obviously something that did not suit the political agenda of the United States. By forcing Cape Verde to act before being officially notified” the United States was able to achieve its aim of getting Alex Saab to Miami by any means possible.

The illegality of the action of the Constitutional Court is clear. The TRB is the body which must certify extradition but, importantly, it could not sign such certification as it was fully aware that the legal process in opposition to the extradition was categorically not complete. Why? Because on 29 September Dr Pinto had filed a motion with the TRB stating the Geneva Public Prosecutor had earlier in 2021 ended a three-year-long investigation into allegations of money laundering against Alex Saab by ruling there was no evidence to support the allegations. That ruling, along with the payment of compensation amounts to a ‘not guilty’ verdict under Swiss Law. As the funds in question were the same funds that are at the heart of the US’s allegations against Alex Saab, the defence’s position was that Alex Saab could not be extradited to face a trial for a matter in which he had already been found not guilty.

This is an extraordinary miscalculation on the part of the United States and its accomplices. Alex Saab and his defence team will not let this matter rest. Alex Saab and Venezuela have suffered significant harm. They will take all necessary steps to right the wrongs done to them.

Moreover, the extraterritorial politically motivated judicial overreach of the United States is a twenty-first-century form of colonialism. Africa must wake up to that reality. Africa and Africans deserve better and the only way we will truly achieve independence of thought and independence of institutions is through our own efforts and not through the platitudes of wolves disguised as sheep.

Scary rare fish spotted on a beach in San Diego.

A tourist accidentally took pictures of ultra-rare deep-sea fish often dubbed as deep-sea monster washed ashore at Black’s Beach in Torrey Pines in San Diego, California, U.S.

Jay Beiler initially thought it was a jellyfish, but when he had a closer look at the creature, he realised it was something completely different he had never seen before.

In an interview with local media, Beiler said that the creature was large, and its length was about a foot.

I have never seen anything quite like this before, Beiler told our reporter in San Diego.

At first, I thought it was a like a jellyfish or something, and then I went and looked at it a little more carefully, and some other people were gathered around it too, and then I saw that it was this very unusual fish. It’s the stuff of nightmares mouth almost looked bloody,

Beiler took photos of the creature before leaving the beach. Later, when the photos were shared with scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, it was revealed that the creature was a Pacific footballfish.

Scientifically known as Himantolophidae, footballfish live in waters that are 3,000-4,000 feet deep. The creature is mostly found in tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans.

A professor of zoology, Johan Reinhardt, had first discovered the fish in 1837.

The photos Beiler snapped show the fish’s knife-sharp teeth, spikes on its sides, and a projectile flowing out of its forehead.

India to resume international flight operations from Dec.15.

India said on Friday it will resume international passenger flights from mid-December with COVID-19 linked curbs for “at risk” countries, and ordered tightened screening at borders as fears over a new coronavirus variant spread globally.

Passenger air services were suspended in late March 2020 due to the nationwide lockdown to check the spread of  COVID-19. While domestic flight services resumed from May 25, 2020, international flight services were only maintained via ‘Bubble Agreements.

The federal health ministry said reports of mutations in the variant, identified as B.1.1.529, had serious public health implications, and asked states to adopt rigorous screening and testing for all passengers from South Africa and other “at risk” countries.

This variant is reported to have a significantly high number of mutations, and thus, has serious public health implications for the country in view of recently relaxed visa restrictions and opening up of international travel,” health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said in a letter to states late on Thursday. But India’s civil aviation ministry said it had decided to let airlines resume scheduled international flights from Dec.15, lifting a nearly two-year-old ban imposed to stem the spread of COVID-19.

The resumption of flights would be based on the coronavirus risk levels of individual countries, according to a formal government order.

Some countries in Europe and Asia have rushed to tighten border controls and restrict travel because of the new variant.

India’s foreign ministry said there was no immediate information on steps the government was taking. “This is a developing incident,” foreign ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi told a news conference.

The federal health ministry did not respond to a Reuters request for further comment.

India, the world’s second-worst affected country by COVID-19, posted the smallest rise in new cases in one-and-a-half years this week, due to increased vaccinations and antibodies in a large section of its population from previous infections.

Its total cases of coronavirus reached 34.56 million on Friday. India’s daily caseload has halved since September and it reported 10,549 new cases on Friday.

Earlier this month, India identified 10 countries “at risk” including Europe, China, South Africa, and New Zealand, among others, and has opened its borders to 99 countries overall.

France: Nicolas Hulot, 66, has been accused of rape by the granddaughter of the late Socialist president François Mitterrand.

A popular French environmentalist and former government minister faces new allegations of rape and sexual abuse after several woman came forward in a TV documentary to testify that he had assaulted them.

The claims come four years after Nicolas Hulot, 66, was first accused of rape by the granddaughter of the late Socialist president François Mitterrand.

In an interview given just before the documentary was aired on Thursday, Hulot strenuously denied the accusations and accused the women of lying. He said he was withdrawing definitively from public life.

The Paris public prosecutor, Laure Beccuau, on Friday announced a preliminary inquiry would be launched into the allegations. Whatever its findings, such an inquiry would not lead to any formal charges as the alleged events happened outside the time limit for prosecution.

Four women, described as unknown to each other, claimed on Envoyé spécial that they had been assaulted by Hulot.

Sylvia who did not give her second name broke down in tears as she described how Hulot forced her to perform oral sex in a vehicle in an open-air car park in May 1989 when she was 16.

I was young, I’d never done anything like that. I didn’t understand what he wanted, she said.

I froze. I knew that what was happening shouldn’t be happening, that it was bad I knew I was trapped and because I didn’t want to do what he was trying to make me do, I tried to lean back in the seat.

She recalled what she said were his last words to her as he dropped her off in Paris: “He said a phrase that that has haunted me for years, he said: ‘Redo your makeup a bit because people can see you’ve been doing something, that’s all He said to me.

I left, I didn’t know what had happened. Had I seduced him? Was it normal? Is that what adults do? I’ve kept this to myself for 30 years. I was a 16-year-old kid, he was Nicolas Hulot. Who was going to believe me?

Hulot stood as a presidential candidate in 2012 and later served as the ecology transition minister in Emmanuel Macron’s first government between 2017 and 2018.

In 2018, when in his ministerial job, a magazine claimed he had raped the daughter of a high profile figure, later revealed to be Pascale Mitterrand, the granddaughter of the late Socialist president. A few months later, Hulot resignes suddenly during a radio interview, citing a disagreement over the government’s environmental policy.

Mitterrand, who was in contact with Envoyé spécial but did not appear in the documentary, alleged to police that Hulot had raped her in Corsica in 1997 when she was 19 and a trainee photographer with the SIPA agency, whose founder is a close friend of Hulot.

Because the allegations were made out of the legal time limit, the investigation was closed.

Hulot, who was questioned by investigators, admitted he had sex with Mitterrand but said it was consensual. He began defamation proceedings against the magazine, but later dropped the action.

Another woman, named only as Cécile, claimed on Envoyé special that Hulot assaulted her in 1998 when she was 23 and was working at the French embassy in Moscow. She said she was sent to help Hulot who told her he was a friend of the then president, Jacques Chirac sort out a problem with customs officers when he arrived to make a documentary in Russia.

Later she said she was in a taxi with Hulot when “he jumped on me, tried to kiss

me. She said I slapped him. I did what I could. My ‘no’ was very clear. I made it very clear I didn’t want sexual relations with that man.

Asked if she had envisaged making a police complaint then, she replied: “In Russia, in Moscow, against a friend of President Chirac. No, I didn’t even think of it. Of course not.

A third woman, Claire Nouvian, who worked on one of Hulot’s shows, was warned to avoid being alone with the presenter and to lock her cabin door at night when they were out in a boat filming in Costa Rica.

She said two or three people had advised her avoid situations where you are alone with him. If you’re working, it’s in the hotel restaurant, not in your room. When you are on the boat, lock your cabin at night. Don’t open if he knocks on your door at night, pretend to be asleep. The film shoot passed without incident but she added there was an ecosystem around this personality that allowed this abuse.

A fourth woman who worked with Hulot, but spoke anonymously, said he had suddenly grabbed her and “kissed me fully on the mouth” after a production meeting in 2001.

Hulot refused to speak to Envoyé spécial on camera, but told the programme in a telephone call: You know very well that it will be word against word and today the word of women is sacred. I have never in my life coerced anyone into anything. Never, neither by hand nor by force.
