A kidnapper who was abandoned by his gang members was arrested in a Toyota Hilux vehicle by men of the Delta State Police Command.

A kidnapper who was abandoned by his gang members was arrested in a Toyota Hilux vehicle by men of the Delta State Police Command while other members of his gang fled on sighting the policemen, the command announced in a statement on Sunday, December 5.

In fact, after he was arrested, he was said to have led police operatives to his house where one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one magazine, one pump-action gun and 26 live cartridges concealed in a sack and buried in the compound were recovered.

The kidnapper, whose name was given as Davidson Odigho, aged 26 years, was said to be a member of a kidnap gang operating in a Toyota Hilux vehicle and who attempted to kidnap a man who recently returned from Europe. They were said to have earlier kidnapped a 63-year-old woman and later abandoned her inside the bush.

It was gathered that as they attempted to abduct the Europe returnee, an argument ensued among them and this made some residents to alert some vigilante members around who also alerted policemen attached to the Oleh Division of the command about the development.

According to a statement by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, posted on the Facebook wall of the command, following the information received, the DPO of the division led his men to swoop on the kidnappers.

Other members of the gang were said to have fled on sighting the policemen, abandoning Odigho inside the vehicle. He was promptly arrested and during interrogation, he was said to have confessed being a kidnapper.

He also added that he was a member of the gang that kidnapped the 63-year-old woman and that they were about to kidnap the Europe returnee before arguments ensued among them inside the vehicle.

The statement added that after his arrest, he led police operatives to his house where one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of 7.62mm live bullets, one magazine, one pump-action gun and 26 live cartridges concealed in a sack and buried in the compound were recovered.  

The statement said the man had given more useful information to the police after which he is expected to be prosecuted while a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing members of the gang.Β
