Residents in Mandera county are in panic after ten heavily gunmen believed to be part of the outlawed Al Shabaab militia stormed the Fino Hospital and abducted a doctor who was on duty.
Sources privy to the happenings disclosed that the gunmen stormed the hospital a few minutes past 1900hrs and took three medical staff before they released two of them with further details revealing that before releasing the two medics that had crossed to the Somalian side.
Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha confirmed the unfortunate incident and stated that they had launched investigations into the matter and had questioned some of the staff at the hospital.
He further assured that a team of officers had been deployed to pursue the militants with the efforts to rescue the medic in place and added that the intentions of the militants are yet to be known as Al Shabaab have not claimed responsibility for the actions.
Mandera county has experienced cases of insecurity for the past two months. On January 31, 13 passengers who were travelling along Arabia – Mandera Road lost their lives after their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device.
