Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday called EU proposal to use Russia frozen assets a robbery.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday called EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell’s proposal to use Russian gold and currency reserves frozen by sanctions imposed over the invasion of Ukraine to restore the European country a robbery.

It can be called theft that they are not even trying to hide, Lavrov told a press conference after his visit to Algeria, where he decried the fact that for the West it is becoming a kind of habit.

They froze in the United States the money that belongs to Afghanistan, from the Afghan Central Bank, and they want to use it, not for the needs of the people of Afghanistan, who have suffered the consequences of the twenty-year stay of NATO countries, but they want to use it for other purposes that are not related to the restoration of the Afghan economy,” he continued.

Thus, the head of Russian diplomacy has ironised that “perhaps soon” the post of head of European diplomacy will be eliminated because the EU practically no longer has its own foreign policy, but fully supports the approaches “imposed” by the United States.

But I can assure you that we will constantly oppose attempts to establish a unipolar world order and destroy the principles on which the UN was founded.

Borrell, in an interview with the Financial Times, suggested using Russian assets frozen by the EU to rebuild Ukraine.
