Taiwan’s defense ministry refuted China’s assertion Tuesday that Su-35 fighter planes crossed the Taiwan Strait ahead of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit, as the Communist country planned a series of military drills and other activities in reaction to the California Democrat’s visit.

Chinese state media stated that two Su-35 fighter planes had flown over the Taiwan Strait, which separates the self-governing island from mainland China, only seconds before Pelosi and five other Democratic members of Congress landed in Taipei at 10:45 p.m. local time.
