Nigeria Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi react to the arrest of his aide.

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a well-known Islamic cleric, has claimed that he is unaware of the circumstances surrounding the detention of Alhaji Tukur Mamu in Cairo, Egypt.

A claim that Tukur Mamu, the publisher who helped secure the release of several of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack victims who had been kidnapped, had been detained in Cairo on the Nigerian government’s orders surfaced in the media on Wednesday.

He is rumored to have been detained together with his family while en route to Saudi Arabia for the smaller Hajj, and it is anticipated that he will be returned to Nigeria.

In the report which was made byΒ Peoples Gazette,Β Sheikh Gumi said I am just hearing that he was detained in Cairo with his family.

I am not aware of why that would happen, and because the Nigerian Government did not charge him for anything or declare him wanted at any time.

But I have also heard that he is on his way back to Nigeria, so I hope to have more information upon his arrival later today.

Tukur Mamu, meantime, had earlier revealed to newsmen that he and members of his family had been jailed in Cairo for 24 hours after being arrested.

When he arrived at the Cairo airport, he claimed that the security guards there informed him that they had been given orders from the Nigerian Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest him.

He claimed that he was not harassed at the Nigerian airport.

He claimed that nothing damning had been discovered about him, that he doesn’t fear the DSS, and that all he wants is for everyone to be aware of what is going on.
